This is a very big downside for the use of electric cars. Before you invest in one, make sure to check that there are enough electric vehicle charging stations in your area. Due to this same problem, it is usually not advisable to take EVs on a long road trip as you can get stranded if you run out of power in an area with no EV charging station. Although works are in progress to make EV charging stations available in most parts of the world, the dream is still far from being a reality and for now, it serve as a huge disadvantage to using an electric car.

Naturally, electric cars have an average range of 100 miles after which they need to be recharged. Running low on battery when the power is not available will take its toll on the car.

The batteries of electric cars can be really heavy, which in turn makes the cars very heavy. The battery pack of an average electric car can weigh up 1,000 pounds or 450 kg. This is a tremendous weight which significantly puts pressure on batteries and they drain out faster. This can also be a problem should the car ever needs to be towed.

This may sound ironical or antithetical in the first instance but it is actually so, literally. Electric cars can also cause pollution as the electricity used to power them is mainly generated by fossil energy or nuclear power that can generate pollution. Additionally, there are toxic elements within batteries which could discharge toxic fumes to the environment.
